More than 200 campers were trapped by the approaching flames of the Creek Fire at the Mammoth Pool Reservoir near Fresno, California, early Sunday. California’s Army National Guard swooped in and rescued them all by helicopter. About 20 of the people were hospitalized for injuries, some of them serious. The massive Creek fire has burned more than 45,000 acres and was zero percent contained as of yesterday. It is one of at least 22 major fires burning throughout California due to dry lightning and extreme heat.
