Study: Holiday Weight Gain Could Be Prevented By Drinking Coffee

Go ahead and enjoy another cup of coffee. University of Illinois researchers found consuming caffeine can limit weight gain and cholesterol production, even while eating a diet high in fat and sugar. The study was done on rats, but the scientists believe that drinking four cups of coffee per day could help prevent weight gain in humans. Study co-author Elvira Gonzales de Mejia adds, “Considering the findings, mate tea and caffeine can be considered anti-obesity agents. The results of this research could be scaled to humans to understand the roles of mate tea and caffeine as potential strategies to prevent overweight and obesity, as well as the subsequent metabolic disorders associated with these conditions.”
